Our History
As the shed rent-to-own sector rapidly expanded from a niche concept to a widespread necessity, Leland Ulrich and industry leaders recognized the need for guidance and collaboration. In 2009, the National Shed Rental Association (NSRA) was founded to address the challenges and potential legal pitfalls faced by growing RTO businesses.
NSRA is governed by a Board of Directors of RTO owners and CEOs who understand the industry's unique challenges. The association advances the sector through networking, advocacy, education, and professional standards. It aims to create a platform for healthy interactions within the storage rental business, promoting ethical practices and fostering growth in accordance with principled guidelines.
A key initiative is NSRA's annual conference, which has grown from a dozen companies at the first event to an average of 58 companies and 125 members. This gathering provides networking opportunities and a forum for companies to seek advice from industry authorities. NSRA also offers ongoing support through legal guidance, updates on ethical business practices, and industry networking.
As a member of the Association of Progressive Rental Organizations (APRO), NSRA represents the industry before government bodies, the media, and the public. Through these efforts, NSRA strives to certify companies, improve legislative participation, enhance public image, and create industry standards that protect consumers and ensure a sustainable future for the shed rent-to-own sector.
